Sunday: Team Lotus drivers enjoy themselves
Once again, the Team Lotus drivers outperformed their rivals from Virgin and HRT, even though the T128 did not seem capable of truly competing with the teams ahead. However, Kovalainen and Trulli are satisfied with their respective races, held on different strategies.

Heikki Kovalainen – 19th
« For me, it was a very good race. I am happy because it seems we have regained our early-season form after Monaco and Canada where I didn’t feel very comfortable in the car.
Today, the conditions were quite hot, but I felt good all afternoon. I prepared physically for this kind of conditions, so it wasn’t difficult to push until the end. I didn’t encounter any problems, and after we switched to a three-stop strategy, I was able to maintain a good race pace after each stop.
We know where we need to improve the car to keep fighting with the cars in front, and it will come with time, but it’s a long-term goal and we are definitely on the right track.
Jarno Trulli – 20th
« It was a good race for me. We tried different strategies to not put all our eggs in one basket, and even though my second set of tires wore out prematurely, I really enjoyed myself. It’s always been a circuit where we knew we would have to keep pushing to achieve something, but it’s satisfying for the team to have both cars finish and be well ahead of those following us. »
Mike Gascoyne
This was a very solid race for our two drivers. We started with a two-stop strategy for both cars, but when we saw the high level of degradation on Heikki’s car, we switched him to a three-stop strategy and kept Jarno on two stops. Jarno almost overtook Heikki during the last stop, but Heikki’s fresher tires allowed him to stay ahead, and the goal of the day was to ensure both made it to the finish, so I’m happy they managed to do that. It wasn’t the circuit where we expected to be the most competitive, but nonetheless, we finished well, and it positions us ideally ahead of Silverstone.
