Sunday: Sauber Leaves Valencia Empty-Handed

Slight disappointment for the Swiss team, which took a strategic gamble with its two cars, without either of them delivering in the race. Sauber leaves Spain without a single point, a first this season, except for Melbourne where both cars were disqualified after the race.

Sergio Perez – 11th

« At the beginning, it was difficult with the hardest tires, but even with the softer ones, I lacked grip and at the end of the race, I lost a lot of time with the blue flags. It wasn’t an easy Grand Prix for my return and I’m happy to have been able to race again. I gave 100% of myself but I think we couldn’t have done better today. However, we will look into how we can improve for the future and I’m sure Silverstone will go better. »

Kamui Kobayashi – 16th

« It was a difficult race for me. I struggled a lot and never had the performance to be able to fight. It was tough with the tires, I tried to take care of them as much as possible, but they degraded quite quickly. Then, when I wanted to attack, I was stuck in traffic. We still have work to do, that’s for sure. »

Mike Gascoyne

« We are disappointed to finish outside the points for the first time this season. We took a strategic gamble with our two cars to try and salvage something from our poor grid position. Sergio did an excellent job with his one-stop strategy, which was quite challenging here. […] He was hindered by blue flags and lost time there. […] Kamui started on the softest tires, then moved to mediums in his second stint, and tried to finish on soft tires. It didn’t really work out, the medium tires were too slow but we didn’t want to run too much on soft tires at the end. In hindsight, perhaps a three-stop strategy would have been better. It’s always tough to get into the points starting from so far back because overtaking is always very difficult here. Now, we need to go to Silverstone, a very different track than the last three, and rest assured we will improve. »
