Sunday: Williams wasn’t in the mix
After two encouraging Grand Prix at Monaco and Montreal, Williams lacked performance in Valencia and finished just outside the points for Rubens Barrichello, while Pastor Maldonado suffered early in the race.

Rubens Barrichello – 12th
« We didn’t have the car with us today. I was really on the edge and I am really happy with what I did. The team worked hard to bring a lot of updates to the car so I’m sorry I couldn’t do better. I think we should be happy to have beaten better cars than ours today. »
Pastor Maldonado – 18th
« We got off to a bad start so I lost some places. Then, I couldn’t get the harder tires to work properly in the first stint, so I had to pit earlier to change them. This early stop forced us to switch to a three-stop strategy. It was too difficult to do well from the position we started on the grid. Now we are heading to Silverstone where I will continue to fight to score points. »
Sam Michael, Technical Director
We needed a bit more performance to get into the points today. The two-stop strategies of the Toro Rosso and the one-stop strategy of Sauber allowed us to move ahead.
Rubens drove a solid race, battling with the cars around him. We had a poor start with Pastor’s car and then unusually low pressure in his first set of hard tires, but his pace improved significantly on his next stint.
We have a lot of work to do before Silverstone to comply with the regulatory changes regarding exhausts.
