A single DRS activation zone at Silverstone
No double activation zone for drivers in Great Britain

After experimenting twice, with a more than contrasting outcome, with the implementation of a double DRS activation zone, the FIA has returned to a single activation zone, located, for the first time this season, just a few cable lengths from the pit exit.
To activate this aerodynamic appendage, the drivers must be within one second of the car ahead as they approach turn 3, just after the fast sequence of the new section. The DRS will be activated from the exit of turn 4, through the fast curve at Aintree and along the Wellington straight.
After the introduction of the new ‘Arena’ section in 2010, the Silverstone circuit has only undergone minor adjustments to adapt to the new paddock location: « The new pits are the main difference, and both the entrance and the exit present new challenges, assures race director Charlie Whiting. « The entrance is shorter than if we stayed on the circuit, so we’ll have to make sure the drivers don’t take advantage of it. As for the exit, it is now uphill and leads into a very fast corner, so it will certainly be different. It should be relatively significant in terms of strategies since tire changes should not be too costly. »
