Petrov puts pressure on Lotus Renault GP
Author of a good start to the season, Vitaly Petrov is feeling the backlash from the decline in performance of his car. He remains confident but wishes to warn LRGP.

After a more than satisfactory start to the season for the Enstone team, with two podiums and 30 points earned in the first two races, the team seems to have since fallen back into line. Renault has indeed scored only 35 points in the seven races that followed. This drop in performance has resulted in a fall in the constructors’ standings, as LRGP is now in 5th place, behind Mercedes GP, considered its most serious rival.
Vitaly Petrov, promoted to the No. 1 driver after Robert Kubica’s withdrawal at the start of the season, wants to remind everyone of some fundamentals. « We are aiming for the maximum number of points, but we need to focus on the entire weekend and increase our performance level from the first free practice session to the race ».
The Russian subtly highlights the lack of reactivity of his team. The speed at which we introduce new developments is the key to success. The car is not at its usual level and we have been out of contention for a few races. We must react quickly for our season to end well.
For the Grand Prix at Nurburgring, Petrov is confident. Since Silverstone, we have been working to give ourselves the best possible chances. I am convinced that the improvements we will make in Germany will bring us satisfaction.
« The weather can be very variable there, and this will be important. But the main thing we need is a good setup for the car. As usual, aerodynamic efficiency will be key ». Another important area is qualifying. « It is important for us to get into Q3 so that we can score as many points as possible on Sunday afternoon ».
