Lewis Hamilton – 1st

Each victory is special, but all the emotions, efforts, and energy the team put into today’s victory make it more special than usual. As I started this weekend, I said I would take the races one at a time. So, winning today is extremely positive for us, but there is still a long way to go in terms of consistency and speed. Driving lap after lap within the same tenths of seconds as your opponents requires doing everything as perfectly as possible, being aggressive yet controlled. The maneuvers I performed today are among the most precise I’ve ever executed. Being able to drive with your head as well as your heart, and doing everything right, is very satisfying. The fight for the title will be very, very, very tough now. We are back in the race and I really hope we can maintain this momentum.

Jenson Button – retirement

« First of all, I would like to congratulate Lewis on his fantastic victory. He did a great job all weekend and this result gives the whole team momentum for the next Grand Prix. As for my race, I had a very bad first lap. I spun too much and had to fight for tenth place. I was behind Vitaly, who was very hard to overtake because he moved a lot in the braking zones. But once I passed him, I enjoyed the fight on the track. I had just overtaken Nico for sixth place when my power steering started to malfunction. Shortly after, we retired due to a hydraulic problem. It’s a very disappointing end, but these things happen sometimes in motorsport and you have to put it behind you and move forward. For the next Grand Prix in Hungary, I hope to be back on the podium for my 200th race ».

Martin Whitmarsh, team principal

« What can I say? Lewis was perfect in qualifying and perfect in the race, and the result is perfect itself. He made an excellent start, overtaking Mark for the lead of the race, and led the early laps. It was an exciting race, with all three teams at their best. When that happens, victory is particularly hard to come by and quite satisfying. Believe me, this success will be celebrated as it should be at the Nurburgring and in Woking tonight, as well as in Brixworth and Stuttgart for Mercedes. As always, their engine was superb today. Jenson had a tough weekend and the race ended prematurely for him due to a hydraulic issue. He will be very disappointed, inevitably, but he is a splendid teammate and a fabulous driver, and I’m sure he will bounce back in Budapest. For Lewis, I must admit that his sixteenth victory is one of his finest ».
