It is not with great surprise that we announce Mark Webber’s contract extension with Red Bull for the 2012 season. In the works since May, this signing adds an additional year to the collaboration between the Austrian firm and the Australian, who has been racing with the Red Bull since 2007. It will also be the fourth season of cohabitation between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.

A choice that seems obvious for Webber: « I want to continue racing at the top in F1, so it makes sense to stay with Red Bull for another year. My motivation to achieve the best possible results for myself and for the team is still very important. Over the last five years, we have worked hard and proven that we can design and build a competitive car capable of winning the title. I look forward to pushing myself and pushing the car to the limit again at every race weekend in 2012 ».

On the Red Bull side, Christian Horner also expressed his happiness about this extension: When we sat down and started discussions about 2012, it immediately became evident that Mark and the team wanted to continue their successful relationship. Agreeing on a contract extension was very easy. Mark knows the team very well, he has been with us since 2007, and his motivation, fitness, and commitment are as strong as they have ever been. The Webber-Vettel duo is very strong: they push each other and we are very happy that the pair remains unchanged for the fourth consecutive season.

As a reminder, Mark Webber is currently second in the championship, 85 points behind his teammate, reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel. This gap is equivalent to three victories and a fifth place.
