Sunday: D’Ambrosio ahead of Glock at Virgin

Height of a very good race at home, Jérôme D'Ambrosio took advantage of a trouble-free race to get the better of his teammate, Timo Glock, who was handicapped from the start by a collision with Paul Di Resta.

Jérôme D’Ambrosio – 17th

« I am very happy with my race, I must say. I was very comfortable with the car’s balance. It was quite difficult at the start because there was a lot of debris and, at one point, I really thought I had a problem, but in the end, it was a pretty calm race. It was a bit tough in the final laps because I had to save fuel. It’s the first time I had to do that, so I had to try to adapt. It was something different, but it’s just more experience for me and everything worked out well. I am very happy with the way things went for my first home Grand Prix. There were a few incidents today, so I focused on making sure everything went well and, in the end, the team had two cars finishing again. It’s a very good way to start the second half of the season ».

Timo Glock – 18th

« It was a bad start because I made a mistake in the first corner. I got on the brakes, the front tires locked up, and I had no chance of avoiding the accident with Paul Di Resta. Unfortunately, I destroyed his car and his race, so I would like to apologize – it’s my fault. But I got a penalty for that, and I had to pit to change the front wing and check the car because it felt strange after the crash. In the end, I just tried to bring the car home. I closed the gap and overtook one of the HRTs. I must say the guys did a great job during the stops, and overall, I am happy with the result ».

John Booth, team manager

Congratulations to Jérôme for his very satisfying and solid result at his home Grand Prix. Although he let the HRTs pass at the start, he quickly found his rhythm by overtaking Liuzzi. With Ricciardo’s retirement, his only real competition was from his teammate until the end of the race. Timo had a very good start but was perhaps a bit too ambitious at the first corner’s braking and collided with Paul Di Resta. He had to pit to change his nose. The safety car allowed him to get back into the race; once he passed Liuzzi, he tried to catch up with Jérôme. We are delighted with the reliability of both cars, even if our fuel consumption predictions based on Friday’s data were not good, leading both drivers to be cautious about saving fuel during the second part of the race. Once again, the team performed well, and it’s a very good race for them.
