Sunday: A victory that feels good for Vettel and Red Bull
It is almost without trouble that Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber delivered the best possible result for Red Bull. An important one-two finish in the quest for the constructors' title and an additional step forward for Vettel in the drivers' championship.
Sebastian Vettel – 1st
I’m very happy. It was a very good race for us today, even though it wasn’t always very easy with the tire management. The beginning of the race was more focused on strategy than driving, and we made quite a few sacrifices by pitting very early.
We then had good sensations, and I returned to the pits when the safety car came out to take a closer look at the tire wear.
You can always realize it when you’re driving at 300km/h, but it was important for the rest of the race to look at it more closely.
We had many discussions this weekend and we agreed before the start of the race that the most important thing was to finish, without trying too hard to know what position we would end up in.
That’s why I am very happy with the result. It couldn’t have been better.
Mark Webber – 2nd
The starting lights went out and my anti-stall system kicked in. I don’t know why or what caused it…
We were worried about the tires, but the team responded very well and found a perfect strategy for us. Our qualifying tires were fairly worn, and we were forced to pit quite quickly. My position in the race was rather frustrating at that point.
When the safety car returned to the race, the team called me to the pits but I was on the wrong side of the wall and didn’t hear the call. It was quite frustrating but the car was behaving well and I was able to drive it to this very good result for the team and I am very happy about it.

This is a fantastic result for the team. A one-two finish, and our first victory on this circuit, it’s phenomenal. Sebastian had a very good start but Mark seems to have had an issue with the anti-stall system and as a result, he lost a lot of positions.
The qualifying tires we used at the start of the race were heavily damaged, and we didn’t have much information about their lifespan during the race. Therefore, we decided to adopt a very cautious strategy by calling our drivers to the pits very early.
We scored a lot of points in both championships thanks to this double, and it’s therefore a very good weekend for us, especially on a circuit where we hadn’t necessarily thought we could win. It’s very satisfying.
