Perez will go head-to-head with Bianchi behind the wheel of a Ferrari

Sergio Pérez will take the wheel of the Ferrari F60 tomorrow on the Fiorano circuit. And the Mexican driver, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will face another driver from Ferrari's young driver program, the Frenchman Jules Bianchi.

Sergio Pérez may be an official driver for the Sauber F1 team this season, but he is also part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, the program for young drivers established by Ferrari last season – Ferrari being the engine supplier for Sauber, it’s not really surprising.

As part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, the drivers have the opportunity to undergo training with courses, use the Ferrari team’s simulator, and also drive the red single-seaters. That’s what the Mexican driver will do this Wednesday. He will take the wheel of the F60—which raced in the 2009 F1 World Championship—and he will also have the chance to spend time in the Italian team’s simulator tomorrow.

But it will be more than just a test session for Perez as he will be competing against Jules Bianchi, a GP2 driver this season who is also part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Luca Baldisseri, head of the academy, wants to conduct a comparison between the two drivers, in particular to assess Bianchi’s level and see if he is ready to drive a Formula 1 car – perhaps in 2013 in place of a certain Felipe Massa!

The two drivers will therefore share a day of testing aboard the F60 – which is a single-seater dating back two years or more as stipulated by the regulations and which has won only one race, at Spa-Francorchamps with Kimi Räikkönen at the wheel.
