Rory Byrne back at Ferrari?

The difficulties of Scuderia Ferrari are real this season. The 2011 car did not allow Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to compete in the title race in a championship outrageously dominated by the German Sebastian Vettel at the wheel of his Red Bull-Renault.

The Italian team must react in 2012 and is trying, as best as it can, to surround itself with quality people to succeed in turning things around.

The latest idea from Stefano Domenicali was to contact former engineer Rory Byrne, who was part of the magic team at Scuderia in the 2000s, a prosperous period of success for the red cars.

Byrne would have a consulting role in the development of the 2012 single-seater. Fernando Alonso has reportedly already given guidelines to improve the car’s performance with Pirelli tires, which caused a lot of problems for Ferrari this year.

Among these developments, a longer wheelbase and a lower seating position in the cockpit for the driver are being studied.

The technical team, led by Pat Fry (formerly of McLaren), is composed of recognized talents such as Tombazis and Daraker and would therefore be strengthened by the arrival of Byrne as a luxury consultant.
