Friday: Difficult day for Timo Glock and Virgin

The Marussia Virgin Racing team could have had a better start to their Singapore weekend. Timo Glock was involved in an incident during the first session - he was hit by Mark Webber, which caused a rear puncture, depriving him of precious track time. As for Jérome d'Ambrosio, things went a bit better even though he damaged his floor while going over a kerb.

Timo Glock – 22nd and 21st

This was not a good first practice session. It was shortened due to problems with the track and then the incident with Webber, which cost us a lot of time in the end. The right rear tire was punctured and I didn’t go out again because we didn’t want to waste a set of tires for the first practice. The second session wasn’t great but it was a little better. We changed our settings a bit and the direction taken is not too bad, but it’s difficult on long runs because our rear tires are suffering. We need to look into that and try to change it for tomorrow.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio – 21st and 22nd

An interesting day getting back into the rhythm of Singapore. It’s the first time I’ve had a good night’s sleep, so it’s very different – it’s hot and the race will be very long. It’s going to be very interesting. As for my performance today, I’m happy. Free practice 1 went well, even though we lost some time – but it was the same for everyone. The second session started well with a race simulation. The only negative is that with a new set of tires, the super softs, I went a bit too far over a curb and slightly damaged my rear wing and the floor, and I also had to back off due to yellow flags. I went back to my garage and they fixed everything, but when I went out again the floor wasn’t optimal and I lost performance with those tires. So we’ll have to look into that, and I’m confident we’ll have an interesting qualifying session tomorrow.
