Sunday: Kovalainen confirms the potential of Team Lotus
Team Lotus is delighted with their Singapore Grand Prix as thanks to Heikki Kovalainen's 16th place, they managed to finish ahead of Petrov's LRGP. Jarno Trulli, on the other hand, experienced a more eventful Grand Prix after being hit by Alguersuari and then had to retire due to a gearbox problem.

Heikki Kovalainen – 16th
I’m really thrilled with my performance today and we should all be happy because it was a great race from the whole team. The pit stop strategy worked very well for us and the guys did a fantastic job each time to get me back on track quickly, to ensure I always stayed ahead of Petrov after each stop. The car was well-balanced throughout the race and the tires were performing well, so I was able to break away and create a certain gap with Petrov to finish in a very good 16th place. What’s also good is that the new developments brought here allowed us to take a slight step forward, and I think it will be even better in Suzuka. After a race like today, I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, so we leave Singapore optimistic for the end of the season.
Jarno Trulli – Withdrawal
I got off to a very good start and was ahead of the Renaults and Toro Rossos. They were pushing really hard, but the car was nice to drive and I was able to stay ahead quite comfortably, remaining in front after my first stop and feeling at ease with my second set of tires. Then Jaime (Alguersuari) hit the rear of my car and I had to pit again, which was very frustrating – it’s really bad luck, but I tried to push hard to come back and did my best before encountering a gearbox problem that forced me to retire. I’m delighted for the team that we were able to fight from the start, and I think it’s also a sign of our good performance during the races, but now we have to think about Japan and I hope we can continue to push there.
Tony Fernandes – Team Principal of Team Lotus
For me, it’s probably the best race we’ve had in our short history in Formula 1. Heikki had an incredible race; he managed to keep pace with the cars around him, and he was also able to get away from the cars behind. He took full advantage of the new package brought here to finish well. Jarno was once again unlucky, and perhaps the strategy we employed for him wasn’t the best, but we brought him in because we thought it was the right thing to do, and I’m convinced we’ll learn from the outcome of this race. I’m thrilled for everyone at the factory because they could see that all the work put into developing the new parts paid off, and I believe we can have a good end to the season, knowing that we can compete with teams more prestigious than ours when opportunities arise.
