Sunday: Mixed results for Scuderia Toro Rosso
Last night in Singapore, the Toro Rosso drivers experienced a difficult race. Sébastien Buemi, who started from 14th position, tried everything to finish in the best possible place. Jaime Alguersuari, who has been struggling since the beginning of the weekend, had to retire a few laps before the end of the race.
Sébastien Buemi – 12th
« Finishing 12th today was the best I could hope for. If we were to analyze this weekend, I would say we lacked grip. Our speed was very good on the straights, but it was lacking in the corners. Tire degradation is very high here, and the team opted for a three-stop strategy. With the car we have, we can hope to be much more competitive on a track like Suzuka, for example. That’s why I’m looking forward to getting to Japan! But before all that, there’s a lot of analysis work to be done, in order to progress and improve on a track like Singapore. »
Jaime Alguersuari – Abandonment
« As early as Saturday, we knew what type of race we would have to deal with, and I was ready to show my best! Unfortunately, the oversteer was too significant after the start and in the following laps. After several laps, I suddenly hit the rail, and my race ended there… Analyzing my performance and that of my teammate, who had a different strategy, I don’t think we could have aimed for points this weekend. Regarding the drive-through, I don’t understand the decision of the stewards, as I only had light contact with Jarno.
Franz Tost – Team Principal
« It just wasn’t our weekend. We experienced issues during practice, and we started quite far back on the grid. After failing in Q2, we were expecting a rather challenging race on this street circuit. Tonight, we did the best we could, but it’s clear we weren’t fast enough. The drive-through penalty Jaime received compromised his race and strategy, and we do not understand this decision. We will now work and analyze to arrive at Suzuka on a completely different track, with much better ambitions. »
