Sunday: Jenson Button and McLaren never leave the podium!

In Singapore, as with the previous races, McLaren secured a spot on the podium and established itself as a true competitor to Red Bull. This weekend, once again, it was Jenson Button who honored his team by finishing in a well-deserved second place. His teammate Lewis Hamilton experienced a race filled with obstacles, but still managed to earn valuable points.

Jenson Button – 2nd

« Throughout the race, the engineers asked me to keep an eye on the tires and the engine. It was only during the last 12 laps that I was able to push and chase Seb on super-softs. I gave it all I had, but in the end, we didn’t have the pace needed to beat the Red Bull. We didn’t make any mistakes this weekend, and we worked with the equipment we had. I think Suzuka will be a track that suits us better! It’s now been a series of Grand Prix that I’ve finished on the podium, so I’d really love to finish on the top step in Japan.

Lewis Hamilton – 5th

Congratulations to Seb first of all! He drove fantastically on all the circuits. And well done to Jenson as well, who is proving to the team that we are not so far from victory with the car.

For my part, I enjoyed overtaking my opponents after my penalty, but it’s frustrating to see that with the package, I could have been at the front. This weekend is a missed opportunity, but I’ll put it behind me as quickly as possible and focus on Suzuka!

Martin Whitmarsh – Team Director

« Jenson once again had a fabulous race, and we collected 18 precious points in the championship. He controlled his pace impeccably, took care of his tires brilliantly, and attacked with total commitment until the end of the race. He could have snatched the victory but unfortunately lost time due to some backmarkers. He’s a contender for the runner-up position in the World Championship!

Lewis had a slightly more frustrating evening. But he drove determinedly, allowing him to perform fantastic overtaking maneuvers and secure the points for 5th place. He still went through the pits 5 times. The 5th place is therefore an impressive result!

We are now heading to Suzuka, which is one of the most beautiful tracks of the season. Jenson and Lewis will aim for victory, as in the races that will follow.
