Lucozade becomes an energy supplier for McLaren
The strategic agreement between McLaren and GSK announced last week is already taking effect today with the involvement of one of the pharmaceutical group's brands, as the British energy drink Lucozade will become a supplier of energy foods, which will result in its presence on the suits and cars of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

Lucozade will thus provide its products to the two drivers as well as to the entire team staff. This aims to meet the nutritional needs related to an activity as intense as driving but also the maintenance and development of these single-seaters, as explained by Aki Hintsa, the team’s doctor: People often think of the unique demands placed on the human body during a Grand Prix, but few consider the overall human performance required to maintain the strength and mindset of a team of over a hundred people traveling around the world for nine months a year. Whether it’s spending long days working outdoors in cold European temperatures in winter or spending race weekends in hot and humid countries like Malaysia, Singapore, and India, the effective coordination of the physical and mental is vital.
We can therefore observe that energy drinks are increasingly present in motorsports in general and in F1 in particular. While Red Bull’s presence is obvious due to its ownership of two teams in its name, Monster has partnered with Mercedes GP, while the Polish drink N-Gine was present with Renault when Robert Kubica was the lead driver. Additionally, the energy drink owned by Tony Fernandes is represented on the Team Lotus cars.
Lucozade beverages and products will therefore be available to the entire team, while Lucozade and McLaren will also work together to develop a new product that meets the specific needs of F1. Commercial applications could follow as it is highly likely that the company will take advantage of its association with personalities like Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton to boost its sales.
