Kobayashi wants to preserve the sound of the engines
With the arrival of V6 engines in Formula 1 from 2014, the question of engine sound arose. But according to Kamui Kobayashi, it is important to maintain the current noise of the V8s because he believes that's what gives Formula 1 its charm for the fans.

The official Formula 1 website interviews drivers throughout the year on their vision of Formula 1, and recently it was Kamui Kobayashi who took part. The Japanese driver revealed that he would like to see the return of powerful engines in Formula 1, V12s for example, engines with a strong roar that can be easily recognizable.
The Sauber driver also believes that the evolution of the regulations should take into account the opinion of the fans, and he thinks that the DRS – present in Formula 1 since the beginning of the year – has been a good initiative by the governing bodies because it has helped improve the spectacle.
I think we should listen to what the fans would like. It’s their sport as well, and I believe that with the changes that have been made—especially to make overtaking easier—the fans have appreciated it, because the races are much more exciting. And obviously we should keep the sound. A good ‘roar’ (of the engine) brings half of that excitement all by itself, Kamui Kobayashi shared on the official Formula 1 website.
Asked which circuit he would add to the calendar if he could decide, the Sauber driver mentioned Magny-Cours because the circuit is fantastic. He also knows it shouldn’t happen because the circuit in Nièvre is not well located geographically as it is situated in the middle of nowhere.
