Sunday: Vettel wins and Red Bull clinches the constructors’ title

After a very good first lap, Sebastian Vettel managed to take the lead of the South Korean Grand Prix and didn't let it go, securing another victory and thus celebrating his driver title won last week and the constructors' title won by Red Bull today. Mark Webber tried everything on his side to overtake Lewis Hamilton and offer a double win to Red Bull, but he couldn't find an opening against the McLaren driver.

Sebastian Vettel – 1st

Fantastic; it’s a very beautiful day for the team and a very special day. Winning the constructors’ title means so much. It was a phenomenal race, we had great pace, and it was so much fun to drive on this track. I knew that overtaking Lewis at the start was going to be difficult, and I almost went off at the braking point, but it was fair, and it was important for us to be ahead. Then, I wasn’t very comfortable, to be honest, because there was a strong headwind, and it was difficult to pull away. I could see his car getting bigger in the mirrors, and it was hard to create a gap, but we made it.

It’s enjoyable to win the championship today with a fastest lap – it doesn’t earn points, but it’s nice to do it. It’s difficult for everyone to imagine what it means to win the title for everyone at the factory. It’s a huge boost, not just for everyone present here on the track – it’s even more than that. There are so many things happening behind the scenes, every day of the year. It’s thanks to an incredible team that we have two competitive cars and we can push the limits on the track. I had a lot of pressure on my shoulders today when I crossed the line. Everyone expects us to be calmer now, but we’re here to win and do our best. We had an opportunity to win today and we took it.

Mark Webber – 3rd

The battle with Lewis was quite intense. I was frustrated to have to follow him during my pit stop, so I took a few risks to try to pass him on the out lap before he could get into a good rhythm. It’s not easy to overtake a driver of Lewis’s caliber. I tried several times, and it was a great battle because our cars have their strengths and weaknesses in different parts of the track, so passing him wasn’t an easy task. I really enjoyed it, but I wish I could have gotten past him because I think we deserved it, but McLaren did a great job and Lewis drove very well. There are lots of positives today; I had a good start and achieved a good result. For the team, winning the constructors’ title is the result of incredible efforts – winning two championships in a row is phenomenal. For the team, for everyone in Milton Keynes who designs and builds the cars, for everyone at Viry with Renault who builds a 100% reliable engine for the moment this year, and for everyone at Fuschl in Austria, it has been a great year. I’m sure there will be some people with headaches tonight.

Christian Horner – Team Principal of Red Bull Racing

Phenomenal. It’s phenomenal for the team, it’s phenomenal for every person at Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technology, and for everyone who works for Red Bull. I’m sure today is a special day for Mr. Mateschitz to see his team retain the constructors’ title, after retaining the drivers’ title last week. It clearly puts last year’s disappointment behind us, and it was a fantastic race. Sebastian did everything very fairly – he got a good start, took the lead, and controlled the race. It was a race worthy of a world champion. Full credit must also go to Mark, who tried everything to pass Lewis, who defended very well, and even though we were faster, we couldn’t quite take the DRS zone to achieve a double. But retaining the constructors’ title with a 1st and 3rd place is really special for the team. It’s a day every team member and everyone associated with the team should be proud of. I’d like to thank Red Bull, our engine supplier Renault, and all our partners for allowing us to achieve this magnificent result.
