Ferrari has resolved its wind tunnel issues

At the beginning of the season, Scuderia Ferrari expected to be able to compete with Red Bull, but that was not the case. The cause was quickly identified: the Italian team's wind tunnel was providing values that did not correspond at all to the reality of the track, leading to excessive optimism. However, that is now a thing of the past, as Stefano Domenicali has stated that the wind tunnel has been modified throughout the year to resolve this issue.

Fernando Alonso was able to test a new front wing in Singapore, Suzuka, and South Korea; this part foreshadows the front wing that will be mounted on his 2012 car, but not only that. This wing also served to validate the team’s wind tunnel.

This wing, used throughout the weekend, did not necessarily bring a performance gain to Alonso, but it allowed for the collection of comparative data to those obtained in the wind tunnel. The model of the Scuderia is now correctly calibrated according to the director of the Italian team, Stefano Domenicali.

The data obtained in the wind tunnel corresponds to the data collected throughout the weekend (in Korea), so it’s a positive sign. There is no doubt about it, Domenicali stated, as quoted by As.

This correlation work should allow the Italian team to start on a better footing in designing its 2012 car, the design of which began several weeks ago. The fact that the season is already played out—with both titles having been secured—could help Scuderia Ferrari better prepare for 2012 by testing things during the last three races of the season.
