Barrichello sees himself in F1 in 2012

Rubens Barrichello is not certain to continue with the Williams team in 2012 - the specter of Kimi Räikkönen hanging over his seat. But the Brazilian driver remains optimistic and confident about his chances of still racing in Formula 1 next season.

After 19 years in Formula 1, Rubens Barrichello has not lost his motivation, despite a poorly performing FW33 this season. His various statements and technical errors could cost him his place at Williams for 2012, possibly in favor of Kimi Räikkönen or Adrian Sutil. Barrichello has stated that he would like to know about his future with the Grove team before the end of the season.

From an emotional point of view, it would be good to know before Interlagos because a lot of people would like to be able to know what I will do with my career, Rubens Barrichello told the site TotalRace.

The record holder for the number of Grand Prix races contested hopes to be able to drive a competitive car next season, which could be difficult given the number of seats already taken, but he remains hopeful and is convinced that the Brazilian Grand Prix, the last race of the season, will not be the last F1 race of his career.

I don’t think this will be my last race. In India, I had a better understanding of the situation. Not everything is open, I can’t talk about it. But I understood a bit better why it was taking so long, and unfortunately we will still have to wait a little longer.

Barrichello wants to continue in Formula 1, but if he can’t, he has said he’s ready to do something else, as several former drivers have told him that life outside of Formula 1 can be much better.

I’m good with everything I’m doing. I really want to race, 100%. But if I can’t, I could focus 100% on something else. Many people – including Luciano Burti and Olivier Panis – have told me that life after F1 is even better, added the Brazilian.
