A revised rear wing for Team Lotus in Brazil

Even though the Brazilian Grand Prix will be the last race of the season, several teams will have new features on their cars, and this will notably be the case for Team Lotus. The Malaysian team will bring a new rear wing to the T128s of Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen.

Our progress on track has been visible, and another sign of our constant development this year is the fact that we are bringing a new rear wing to Brazil. Our race pace has been good throughout the season, but we haven’t been as strong in qualifying, and this rear wing update should help us improve the efficiency of our DRS, Mike Gascoyne shared.

This new part should allow for better DRS performance, which should offer a performance gain over one lap, especially during the qualifying session. This might enable Kovalainen or Trulli to fight for a place in Q2 on merit.

To put it simply, given that DRS can be used anywhere on the track during qualifying, our performances in Q1 have never matched our race performances where the use of DRS is limited, and bringing a new wing that offers more downforce and improves the efficiency of DRS should allow us to close the gap with the cars ahead of us compared to recent races, added the technical director of Team Lotus.

Heikki Kovalainen is moreover convinced that this new system will bring an interesting gain in terms of performance. He hopes to continue his good momentum to achieve one last good result this season at the Interlagos circuit.

In Brazil, there is no reason why we can’t have another good weekend. We will have a new rear wing that should allow us to have a slightly better pace in qualifying and the race, and we will have medium and soft tires like in Abu Dhabi, so we should be able to replicate the same kind of performances as in Abu Dhabi and in previous races, Kovalainen said.
