Webber still sees himself in F1 in 2013

Mark Webber can very well see himself still being a Formula 1 driver in 2013, even if his contract with Red Bull expires at the end of 2012.

Mark Webber began his career in 2002 with the Minardi team at the time. He then drove for the Jaguar team for two seasons before joining Williams in 2005 for two seasons as well. At the beginning of 2007, he joined the Red Bull Racing team for which he still drives.

But the Australian driver’s contract will expire at the end of 2012, and his place is far from assured in the team as Red Bull develops young drivers through its scouting program. The Austrian team might therefore be tempted not to renew Webber for an additional season to make room for a young driver – Ricciardo, Vergne, Alguersuari, or even Buemi, for example.

Mark Webber has only been signing one-season contracts with Red Bull for several years, and that’s fine with him. Even if he might not be offered a new contract in 2012, he believes he can continue in F1 nonetheless.

I absolutely see myself continuing a little longer. Helmut (Marko) has always wanted to make one-year contracts, and in a way, it hasn’t been too bad for me either. It started three or four years ago. That’s how it goes, and as always, in mid-season, we sit down and discuss, Webber told the Daily Mail.

After a difficult year this season, Mark Webber will likely be determined to do better in 2012, possibly to prove his worth and try to convince team bosses to recruit him for 2013.
