Objective points for Trulli and Caterham in 2012
Jarno Trulli believes that the changes made within the Caterham F1 team (formerly Team Lotus) should allow them to establish a stronger presence in the midfield and finally score their first points in F1.

The Caterham F1 team, formerly Team Lotus and Lotus Racing, made its debut in Formula 1 in 2010, but so far the team has not managed to score any points, similar to its two rivals Virgin and HRT. The best result for the green and yellow team is a 12th place achieved by Heikki Kovalainen at the 2010 Japanese Grand Prix.
But in 2011, the team more often managed to beat more prestigious teams, such as Sauber, Williams, and Lotus Renault, and Jarno Trulli believes that the direction taken, notably with the use of KERS starting in 2012 and the arrival of John Iley who worked at McLaren, should help change things.
Things are looking really promising. We will finally have the KERS that we didn’t have, and it will be a great help. I remember when I didn’t have it at Toyota, it was a problem that made a difference. The technical structure of the team is also going to be improved: new engineers are coming in all the time and the recruitment of John Iley confirms the team’s ambitions, Trulli told La Repubblica.
This season, the Hingham team seemed a cut above its main rivals – HRT and Virgin – and Trulli believes this should intensify in 2012. The Italian driver, often rumored to be leaving in 2012 despite a contract, can dream of no better revenge in 2012 than being the first driver to score points for Caterham in Formula 1.
“I don’t mean that I am going to win races, but I think that the ambition to leave the group of new teams and enter the midfield pack is a legitimate ambition. We are going to start showing what we are capable of in the races and score our first points,” added the Italian veteran.
