The return of Formula 1 to the United States will take place in Austin on November 18th. Construction of the site had stopped for several days in late 2011 to pressure the promoter and Bernie Ecclestone to sign a contract to ensure the organization of the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

The contract was signed by the different parties, and construction work was able to resume. A reporter from the newspaper American Statesman had the opportunity to visit the site to assess the progress of the work. The first buildings are starting to rise from the ground, which is a good sign.

There has been significant activity at the Circuit of the Americas in recent days. The construction of the circuit southeast of Austin is progressing quickly, and the buildings are beginning to take shape, notes Dave Doolittle on the American Statesman website.

The construction of part of the stands, the podium, and the press center is also well underway. There will only be one permanent stand, with a capacity of 9,000 seats, for the first edition of the race.

The main grandstand, which should be able to accommodate up to 9,000 people, will be the only permanent grandstand with seating for the first race, scheduled from November 16 to 18. The remaining 120,000 people expected on race day will be seated on scaffolding or embankments.

Even though almost everything still needs to be done with the race being only 10 months away, the organizers are confident they will be ready on time, and according to David Doolittle, they are doing everything to ensure it.

«The officials have reiterated to us that they expect to finish on time for the inaugural race. They have a lot of work to do, but all the activity shows that they are working to achieve this goal, » states the reporter in his column.
