After recently failing a crash test, Scuderia Ferrari has successfully passed the FIA crash tests with its 2012 car – currently nicknamed Project 663. Starting this year, cars must pass the FIA-imposed crash tests before they can participate in winter testing, so this is a relief for the entire Italian team, which is set to unveil the car on February 3rd.

According to sources from Marca, Ferrari has reportedly succeeded in passing the crash tests for its single-seater, which is lighter and more efficient than the 2011 F150 Italia, by reinforcing several parts of the chassis with carbon fiber.

However, still according to the Spanish publication, the modifications made to the new Ferrari reportedly slightly reduced the car’s efficiency, although this should not be too noticeable in terms of lap times.

Ferrari is not the only team to have recently passed the crash tests, indeed, according to several reports, the Swiss team Sauber F1 has successfully passed the crash tests with its single-seater, which will allow the team to test its single-seater as planned, and like Ferrari, from the first pre-season tests in Jerez starting February 7.
