The Yas Marina Circuit will not be modified
While changes to the Yas Marina Circuit had been mentioned to facilitate overtaking, the leaders have ultimately decided that nothing will change.

The officials of the Yas Marina Circuit had considered modifying the layout of their circuit to make it more interesting and to encourage overtaking, following the 2010 race where Fernando Alonso was stuck behind Vitaly Petrov for many laps.
At the beginning of 2011, some people had suggested the idea of modifying certain chicanes on the circuit or also the approach to the hairpin by turning it into heavy braking to allow for multiple trajectories and thus overtaking opportunities.
But ultimately, the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix went very well – thanks to KERS, DRS, and the new Pirelli tires – and the circuit’s leaders decided that the success of the race did not make changes to the track necessary for the 2012 season.
The situation is such that the Yas Marina Circuit is satisfied with the current track configuration, explained a spokesperson for the circuit to the site f1today.nl.
