If it is not the first single-seater to reveal its form this season – Caterham having beaten it to the punch a week ago – the MP4-27 from McLaren is, however, the first car from a top team to be presented to the public. The presentation took place in Woking, the stronghold of the British team, and it could be followed live on the Internet as well as on Facebook.

On January 5th, Lewis Hamilton stated: “The new McLaren MP4-27 seems, by far, better than last year’s.” The team leaders, on the other hand, implicitly mentioned a greater risk-taking in its development: “Last year […] we were too radical on certain things and we paid the price for it.”

On the side of fans and the press, rumors were rife both about the audacity of the British team and the look of the car imagined as white or black, especially since the definitive withdrawal of Mercedes from McLaren’s capital. But it was indeed a chrome car in the lineage of the MP4-26 that was revealed to the world, with a less radical nose than that of the Caterham CT01 and especially the end of the “U”-shaped sidepods that had caused so much talk last season. A car that, according to Martin Whitmarsh, will certainly not be the same in Australia, as it is in constant evolution.

As we mentioned two weeks ago, the first to sit in the seat of the 55th McLaren car will be Alan Turvey, for straight-line tests. Jenson Button will then take his turn during the first two days of testing in Jerez, on February 7th and 8th. Lewis Hamilton will take the wheel for the following two days.
