Lewis Hamilton will have the same agent as Mika Hakkinen

After a season marked by numerous on-track incidents and a troubled personal life, Lewis Hamilton aims to make a fresh start in 2012 in order to regain his supremacy at McLaren and once again compete for the title. This will involve a change of manager as he will now be using the services of Didier Coton, the former manager of Mika Hakkinen.

Last year, the 2008 world champion decided to forgo his father’s services, who had accompanied him since his karting beginnings, and to join a company specialized in contract management for celebrities, XIX Entertainment of Simon Fuller.

It must be noted that this partnership was not the most glorious since the English driver experienced, by far, his most difficult season as he was beaten for the first time by his teammate over the course of the season. His repeated collisions, especially with Felipe Massa, ruined many of his races.

For 2012, he will be able to benefit from the advice of a Formula 1 expert since Didier Coton has extensive experience in the paddocks. He was Mika Hakkinen’s agent when the latter won two titles with McLaren. Therefore, he is well-versed in the customs within the Woking team, especially as he advised Olivier Panis to join them as a third driver. His track record is impressive since, aside from the two previously mentioned drivers, he manages the interests of Alexander Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre (who have just joined the Toyota program at Le Mans), James Rossiter, Oliver Turvey, and Valtteri Bottas (the third driver for Williams).

Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton does not completely cut ties with XIX Entertainment since it is Didier Coton who joins this organization and not the driver who joins Didier Coton’s.
