Kevin Magnussen promoted within McLaren
After joining the McLaren young driver development program in 2010, Kevin Magnussen is retained and even promoted by the Woking team. Indeed, he will get closer to F1 activities while competing in the World Series by Renault.

His new role will be to provide technical support on the cars of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. He will also have the opportunity to take the wheel during the test sessions dedicated to young drivers, which will most likely take place on the Yas Marina circuit after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Before that, he will have had the opportunity to familiarize himself with the single-seater thanks to his work on the simulator. He will then be able to benefit from the expertise of Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey, the two official test drivers of the English team. Thus, he will spend a good part of the season getting accustomed to the workings of the said simulator before being able to contribute to the technical development of the MP4-27.
In parallel with these activities for McLaren, the 19-year-old driver and son of former McLaren driver Jan Magnussen will participate in the 2012 World Series by Renault season after finishing second in the British Formula 3 Championship. For the record, this is the competition that Jean-Eric Vergne won in 2010 before being appointed to Toro Rosso two seasons later…
All of McLaren’s test drivers will therefore have a racing program as Gary Paffett will be competing in the German touring car championship, while Oliver Turney will drive the brand new MP4-12C GT3 in the GT3 championship.
