It seems that Lewis Hamilton is concerned and worried about the performance of the new McLaren MP4-27.

The Auto Motor Und Sport newspaper reported that Lewis Hamilton experienced some moments of concern during the first laps with the new McLaren car last week in Jerez.

The Spanish daily Marca claims that Lewis confessed to his former teammate Heikki Kovalainen that he was disappointed with his McLaren: When I saw that all the other cars had a different nose than ours, I wondered if we had chosen the right solution, he said, referring to the platypus noses that appeared on all the new cars presented.

However, Lewis Hamilton was faster than his teammate Jenson Button in Jerez, and not far off the times of Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull, even though Mark Webber had dominated his German teammate the day before.

The British driver had even admitted that his time in Jerez was achieved using an aggressive strategy, meaning with little fuel in the tank. Unlike, perhaps, his closest competitors.

According to him, the McLaren is difficult to control in fast corners, which strongly contrasts with Sebastian Vettel’s statements regarding his Red Bull: In fast corners, I don’t feel much difference at the front compared to 2011.

But Hamilton remains motivated and wants his team to keep moving in the right direction: “I’m quite positive about the current performance of the car. And I’m confident that the guys will push even further forward.”

Only, the Briton thinks that it is still far too early to position himself against his adversaries: « We must remember that everyone is focused on their own program. Currently, it’s not a competition to see who is the fastest. In the coming weeks, we will have a little more indication on everyone’s position. »
