The Mercedes team does not aim to win the title in the next two seasons. Norbert Haug believes that his team is not yet ready to compete at the top of the world rankings.

Norbert Haug, sports director of the Mercedes team, believes that his team will not immediately be able to fight for the title after finishing twice in fourth place in the championship: « You can’t jump from fourth to first place in one go. We have to do it gradually… 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and finally 1st. »

Following this logic outlined by the German, Mercedes should therefore be fighting for the championship title by the 2014 season. On this note, when asked whether his team has a car capable of winning this season, his response is unequivocal: « Not yet. We have made great strides in the past twelve months, but we still have a lot of progress to make. »

The team knows, however, in which area it needs to improve: « It is said that we probably have the best engine, the best KERS, now, we want to have the best car. »
