Claire Williams replaces her father on the board of directors

This marks the turning of a page at Williams, a passing of the baton between generations: indeed, Claire Williams will take on the role of marketing director for the team. This appointment will allow her to join the board of directors of the eponymous team. She will replace her father, who has decided to step back as he approaches 70 years of age.

This change in the decision-making structure of the Grove team is explained by the departure of Dominic Reilly, who decided to start his own business after eight years as marketing director. However, he will not sever all ties with his current employer since he will receive their support in his new activities.

It is therefore up to Claire Williams to find new sponsors, a task made all the more difficult in these times of economic crisis. She will also be responsible for the team’s overall communications and the group’s ancillary activities. To do this, she can rely on a solid experience and knowledge of the structure founded by her father, as she has been working there for ten years.

As for his father, he decides to follow the same path as his acolyte, Patrick Head, who had also decided to step back from his role within the team: This is an opportune moment for me to consider my own role within the team. I will be 70 years old in April, and I have decided to signify the next step in the gradual but inevitable process of handing over the reins to the next generation by resigning from the board at the end of the month. This is not as significant a decision as it seems: I will continue to work full-time as team principal and attend all board meetings as an observer. I will also remain the majority shareholder of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC. Nevertheless, it will now be Claire who represents the Williams family on the board, and I know she will work tirelessly alongside Adam to ensure the group and the team are as successful as possible.

The time for retirement has therefore not yet come for Sir Frank Williams. However, he will now focus on his passion for managing a Formula 1 team, without the responsibilities of an entire group that extends its activities into other areas.
