Peter Brabeck will hold 0.5% of F1

It seems that Peter Brabeck is increasingly in the lead to become the president of F1. As a welcome bonus, he would receive an additional 0.2% on top of the 0.3% he already holds. This stake is valued at 50 million dollars by the sale carried out by CVC.

But as always when it comes to financial information related to F1, this information sparked controversy among various sites specializing in F1 economic affairs. Indeed, Mark Kleinman from Sky announced that the former president of Nestlé would receive 0.5% when introduced as F1 president. However, Christian Sylt, one of Bernie Ecclestone’s confidants and business writer for the Pitpass site, was quick to point out that Peter Brabeck already held 0.3% and would therefore only receive 0.2%.

A little later, another recognized paddock expert, Joe Saward, recalled the distribution of shares in Delta Topco Ltd, the holding company that owns the commercial rights to F1. In this ranking, the Swiss appeared as the smallest shareholder with 0.25% of the shares…

If the various experts are arguing over a few tenths of a percent, it’s because the monetary stakes behind it are very significant. Indeed, CVC’s sale of 21% of Delta Topco to three investment funds values F1 at around ten billion dollars. An arrival bonus of 0.5% would therefore represent the impressive sum of 50 million dollars. For context, the highest salary in the CAC40 in 2011 was “only” 4.4 million euros. The 16 million euro bonus granted to Marc Levy of Publicis also stirred controversy during the last French presidential campaign.

Nevertheless, all this controversy is currently based on nothing concrete since it is not yet guaranteed that the introduction of Delta Topco will become effective in the near future as hoped (July according to reliable sources) and that the Swiss businessman will obtain this highly coveted position.
