The English press had previously announced that McLaren would have made an offer of over 30 million dollars to retain the 2008 world champion, Lewis Hamilton, within their team. Indeed, the British driver’s contract ends in December 2012.

Jean-Louis Moncet seems to hold from one of his best sources, as he mentions in the pages of Auto Plus, the information that Lewis Hamilton has already decided to leave McLaren at the end of 2012, or even before if the situation does not improve.

British newspapers reported after the Monaco Grand Prix weekend that Lewis was annoyed and irritated by the multiple mistakes made by his team, stating that the latter still had a lot of work to do to contend for the title.

Moncet also specifies: « There have been serious contacts between Paul di Resta and McLaren. » It is also known that the Scottish driver currently with Force India is supported by Mercedes, a long-time engine supplier for McLaren. The irony of the situation lies in the fact that di Resta is managed by Lewis Hamilton’s father…

But according to Martin Brundle, former driver and current commentator on English television, Hamilton seems at ease with McLaren. However, he adds: But wouldn’t he want a bit of breathing room and to look elsewhere? I imagine it must be burdensome for him at the moment.
