GSK will support Nyck de Vries
The integration of the pharmaceutical group GlaxoSmithKline within McLaren now extends to its young driver development program. This is why Woking's protégé, Nyck de Vries, will be able to benefit from products developed under the Lucozade brand, already used by Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

The Dutchman joined this program in January 2010, at only 14 years old. Since then, he has won two world karting championship titles and has now moved on to single-seaters, in Formula Renault 2.0. This step comes with greater physical demands, as Jenson Button explains: « One of the program’s goals is to develop and maintain your body. As he starts participating in longer races and driving faster cars, Nyck will learn to recognize that proper hydration can have a significant impact on his performance. Having Lucozade will allow him to benefit from their vast experience in this area. »
McLaren plans to achieve the same performance with the young driver as it did with Lewis Hamilton. The comparison is even more accurate as Nyck de Vries has as his agent a certain… Anthony Hamilton, the father of the 2008 world champion.
This is how Jonathan Neale, the CEO of McLaren Racing, stated: As the CEO of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, driver recruitment is of utmost importance. With Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, both world champions, I am delighted to say that we have the strongest pair of drivers in Grand Prix racing at the moment. Our young driver program, which identified and supported Lewis during his karting years and guided him through Formula 3 and GP2 until his debut in Formula 1 with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in 2007, is crucial to ensure that our future driver duo is as strong as the current one. For this reason, I applaud Lucozade’s involvement in the development of Nyck de Vries’ career and wish him the best in his journey from junior single-seaters to his ultimate goal of Formula 1.
It is therefore highly likely that Nyck de Vries will be a regular at the McLaren GSK Center building in Woking when it becomes operational next year.
