According to The Telegraph, David Campbell, the short-lived marketing director of F1, received 0.1% of F1. This granting of shares is a common practice among high-growth potential companies to attract recognized professionals in their field.

This is the case of David Campbell, who succeeded, in just five years, in transforming the resounding commercial failure of the giant concert hall of the O2 Arena in London into one of the most appreciated venues by professionals and fans.

Nevertheless, his departure after less than a year in the position did not result in the reimbursement of his shares, which remain in his possession as he stayed long enough to retain them. His role, although short-lived due to the incompatibility of his views with those of Bernie Ecclestone, resulted in a significant financial gain as the recent sales made by CVC show a total valuation between nine and ten billion dollars.

It will be interesting to know what percentage Michael Payne and Christian Vogt, his two replacements, have managed to secure to ensure the marketing direction of F1. They must aim to increase sponsorship revenues in order to maximize the sport’s valuation when it is floated on the stock exchange at the end of the current season.
