Nico Rosberg will drop 5 places on the grid on Sunday

Similarly to Romain Grosjean, Nico Rosberg will have to change his gearbox following a problem identified after the British Grand Prix. The German therefore receives an automatic five-place grid penalty for Sunday's race.

Even before the start of the German Grand Prix trials this Friday, we informed you that Romain Grosjean, even though he was able to finish the race at Silverstone, should drop 5 places on the starting grid for the German Grand Prix. This is due to an issue encountered in the last lap of the race, which requires a gearbox change outside the mandatory 5-race cycle.

Today, it is Nico Rosberg who experiences the same mishap. The German, finishing in an anonymous 15th place at Silverstone due to settings planned for rain on a dry track, is forced to change his gearbox, which was supposed to be fitted on the Mercedes W03 for its 5th and final race.

The son of Keke Rosberg wants to remain philosophical: « Unfortunately, we have to change my gearbox as a precaution after discovering a problem after Silverstone. I will therefore receive a 5-place penalty which is unfortunate for our home race but I will push to the maximum to achieve a good result. As we’ve seen this season, a lot can happen in a race. »
