Friday: The Toro Rosso cars are still not fast enough

Scuderia Toro Rosso is still experiencing difficulties at the back of the grid. Despite some new parts and different setup trials, as it stands, the STR07 is simply not fast enough. However, both Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne will try to get the most out of their car.

Daniel Ricciardo – 16th and 17th:

« The track seemed less dirty than usual for a Friday and there was quite good grip in the morning. They also resurfaced the last corner, and this part of the track seems to rubber in a lot, which is good. I wasn’t too unhappy with the car this morning, but in general, the scenario is similar to the last races, we lack speed compared to the others. We made some changes to the car between sessions, but they just confirmed my initial feeling that the car wouldn’t be as good, but we wanted to try anyway, even to confirm that the car was better in Free Practice 1. We can get a little more out of the car, but I’m not sure it will be enough to climb much in the hierarchy. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – 17th and 16th:

« In general, it’s a decent day. We came here with a few aerodynamic updates to evaluate, and the test went smoothly, my first impression being that they are going in the right direction. However, we are still suffering from a lack of speed, and finding a better pace in dry conditions is what we need to work on to close the gap. In the short term, this is going to be difficult, but we will try to find something for tomorrow, using what we have as best as possible. In the afternoon, we tried to adapt to the rain to see what the conditions might be like if we have bad weather on Sunday. But the circuit was half dry, half wet, so it proved to be inconclusive. »
