Räikkönen does not close the door to Ferrari

Rumors have emerged in the Budapest paddock about a possible return of Räikkönen to Ferrari in 2013. The main party involved has not closed the door to a return to Maranello.

Felipe Massa reaches the end of his current contract at the end of the current season, which opens the door for Ferrari to look for another driver. While Mark Webber responded negatively by re-signing for an additional season with Red Bull, the same might not be true for Kimi Räikkönen.

When questioned on the subject during the post-race press conference by an Italian press representative, the Finn remained very evasive on the subject: « I have always said that I have nothing against them. I had a good time there, I won my championship there, but things could have gone better in the end. Life goes on and you never know what might happen in the future. Nevertheless, I am happy where I am currently and things are going quite well.»

Seeing Kimi Räikkönen don the colors of the Scuderia again to be Fernando Alonso’s teammate would certainly be intriguing, as it was precisely to allow the arrival of the double world champion Spaniard that Ferrari had thanked Kimi Räikkönen, with a significant financial compensation. This led him to spend two seasons in WRC before making his return with Lotus at the start of the season.

If the agreement were to materialize in the coming weeks, Ferrari would present one of the most effective driver duos on the grid, equivalent to what McLaren can do with its two world champions, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Nevertheless, this kind of duo has never been the preference of the Italian team…
