Friday: The Mercedes drivers feel they are on pace
The Silver Arrows had a productive first day of testing, successfully trying out different fuel loads. Michael Schumacher even topped the timesheets in the morning session before being overtaken by his teammate in the afternoon.
Michael Schumacher – 1st and 10th:
I am quite happy with the practice sessions since we got a lot of work done on long stints, which was our main concern today. We have a different aerodynamic package for Monza that seems to work well, so it looks better than in the last races. During the sessions, we made good progress, so I am curious to take a look at the data we collected and take a step back. It’s always nice to be back at Monza where I am always warmly welcomed by all the tifosi. As I said earlier, I would like to thank them and I hope we can put on a good show tomorrow and in Sunday’s race.
Nico Rosberg – 3rd and 5th:
« It was undoubtedly a better start for us than at Spa. We were able to complete many laps today and it seems that we have a good pace with both high and low fuel loads. As always, it’s hard to say where we are compared to others but I hope we can score some good points this weekend. It was a lot of fun driving on this amazing track, and I always love the special atmosphere here. Yesterday, I went to the old Monza track with a scooter, which is great to see. »
