The recent results of Massa could allow him to stay with Ferrari

After finishing fifth at the Belgian Grand Prix, Felipe Massa once again achieved a commendable result by finishing fourth in Italy. Such performances speak in his favor for continuing the Ferrari adventure next year. At least, that’s what the driver believes.

The Brazilian has nearly doubled his points tally in two races thanks to two top-five finishes. It’s been a long time since Massa managed to string together such good results. Recently, Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari’s sporting director, asked the Brazilian to justify his place by delivering good performances.

Massa was naturally satisfied on the evening of the Italian Grand Prix: « I think it was really important to have these results over these two weekends, and it’s also important for the future. Now it’s time to work for next year, and that’s what I’m trying to do. This result is very good for the future. »

Indeed, lately, the future of Felipe Massa at Ferrari has been the subject of much discussion. Several drivers like Nico Hülkenberg, Paul di Resta, and especially Sergio Pérez, are vying for his seat.

Moreover, regarding the latter, Massa is not worried that he was overtaken during the race in Italy to secure a podium place that seemed promised to him at the start of the Grand Prix: « It was a normal fight. I think he had a good race and the level of degradation of his tires is really impressive. If he had started the race in a better position, he probably could have won it. »

To reassure his driver, Stefano Domenicali stated after the race that Massa’s performance was exactly what was expected of him at Ferrari: « We can be proud of Felipe’s race, and also of his qualification. He is a great driver and you know how much I personally support him. He performed well all weekend as we wanted, but that doesn’t affect whether or not we speed up the process for next year’s driver selection. We are discussing it together and will keep you informed when the time comes. »
