Max Chilton, currently fifth in the GP2 championship, becomes the new reserve driver for the Marussia-Cosworth team. He replaces Maria de Villota, who was seriously injured in a straight-line testing session at the Duxford airfield last July.

The 21-year-old British driver already has some experience in Formula 1, having participated in young driver tests at the Silverstone circuit earlier this year.

Chilton is obviously delighted with the opportunity presented to him: « I am thrilled to have this fantastic opportunity to be part of the Marussia F1 team for the rest of the 2012 season. My experience with the team at Silverstone was a taste of how a Formula 1 operates, and I am very excited to have the chance to continue on this path by becoming a reserve driver for the final races of the year. »

Despite his young age, the British hopeful has great confidence in himself and his talent: « I feel that my driving is more mature this season, and now, having the opportunity to combine this with real insight into the engineering activities of a Formula 1 team, and the level of preparation required of a driver at this level, is truly a step forward in my career. I would like to thank the team once again for this opportunity. »

Max Chilton will start working with Marussia at the Japanese Grand Prix, after finishing his GP2 program which ends this weekend in Singapore, alongside the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
