Schumacher at Sauber: “Anything is possible” according to his management

As the transfer market accelerated following the signings of Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes and Sergio Pérez with McLaren, Michael Schumacher, gently nudged out by the star-branded company, does not seem in a hurry to reveal what his future holds. Rumors suggest he might head to the Sauber team, which would welcome the arrival of a seven-time World Champion.

Direct victim of the signing of Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes-AMG for the 2013 season, Michael Schumacher currently finds himself without a seat for the coming year. While many observers see this as an announced end to the career of the multiple German champion, the reality is somewhat different. Indeed, it seems that Schumacher has not yet decided what his future will hold.

The signing of Sergio Pérez at McLaren to replace Hamilton leaves a seat open in the Sauber team. Furthermore, we know the ties that unite the Swiss team and Michael Schumacher, which date back to when the seven-time German World Champion raced for Peter Sauber in Sport Prototype.

For Sabine Kehm, who manages the interests of the German driver, the door remains open: « Everything is possible. Michael is not short of possibilities. It’s just that, for now, it’s still too early to talk about anything specific. ». However, Kehm was recently spotted in conversation with Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn.

Moreover, she does not hide a certain interest in the German champion: « Of course, it’s an enticing idea. And certainly, we need to consider having a seven-time world champion with us when there is one on the transfer market. But Michael has always been associated with big manufacturers’ teams that you can’t really compare to us. »

Other voices are being heard regarding the future of Schumacher’s career. Among them, his former manager Willi Weber would have known what to do if he had still been in charge of the German’s interests: « I would have wanted to find him a car immediately and therefore I would have gone to talk to Luca di Montezemolo in Maranello. »

This thesis seems, however, hardly credible since Ferrari is about to renew Felipe Massa’s contract for the 2013 season.
