Despite doubts about the continuation of his Formula 1 career, Michael Schumacher has declared himself as motivated as ever as he approaches the final six races of the season.

Last week, Mercedes confirmed its driver duo for next season, which will consist of Lewis Hamilton, coming from McLaren, and Nico Rosberg. The situation of the current Brackley resident, Michael Schumacher, is therefore clear: he is currently without a seat for 2013.

If some opportunities are available to him at Sauber, replacing Sergio Pérez who left for McLaren, or possibly at Ferrari, in place of a disappointing Felipe Massa, the German has not yet made a decision on whether or not he wants to continue his Formula 1 journey.

Despite everything, his state of mind remains the same as he explains himself: « My motivation is intact after last week’s news, particularly because Suzuka is one of the highlights of the season for me. »

The Mercedes driver would like to secure a good result in Japan, on a track he particularly appreciates for having experienced great moments in his career. However, his ten-place grid penalty following his collision with Jean-Eric Vergne in Singapore is likely to strongly handicap him: « I love this circuit. There are sections that make it a real challenge for drivers, unlike anywhere else. Logically, it would be great to achieve a good result here, although my chances are very limited because of my grid penalty. But I’ve always approached such things as a challenge. »
