Mercedes aims to bounce back in South Korea after the disappointment at Suzuka

After failing to score any points in Japan, the Mercedes team intends to bounce back this weekend in South Korea. While Ross Brawn believes that this rough patch has allowed the team to become stronger, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher think that the Korean circuit should better suit the F1 W03, and therefore improvement is possible.

Starting far back on the grid, Nico Rosberg saw his race quickly cut short at Suzuka after being hit by Bruno Senna. The German driver is eager to get back on track in South Korea to try to forget this bad moment: “It’s nice to have a race again this weekend; it gives me a chance to get a better result in 7 days. I believe that the recent updates to our car will be better suited to this circuit, so I hope we can take a step forward in terms of performance.”

Like his teammate, Michael Schumacher believes that the Yeongam circuit should suit his Mercedes F1 W03 better than Suzuka, which makes him optimistic: « The Yeongam circuit offers a real challenge, it is well-designed and many drivers appreciate it. The general characteristics should be more favorable for us than in Japan, so we approach Korea positively. »

Ross Brawn also believes that the failure in Suzuka helped the team to be better prepared for South Korea: « Despite a challenging moment in Suzuka, we were able to learn a lot about the car and its performance, which provided us with plenty of data to study this week ahead of the next race. »

Norbert Haug, on his part, gives his team a simple goal: to be better in qualifying in order not to end the Korean weekend like the one in Suzuka, with no points: « Regarding this weekend in Korea, the circuit is very different from Suzuka. The Yeongam track has many more slow corners, with six of them taken at less than 100 km/h, which is particularly slow for a Formula 1 car. The Suzuka weekend showed that on such a demanding circuit, there are many teams within just a few tenths in the race. Our task for Korea is to ensure that we return to a level that will allow us to have better starting positions than in Suzuka, so we can aim for better race results. »
