Sunday: Kovalainen and Caterham did not take advantage of the circumstances
Despite the race conditions, Heikki Kovalainen could not manage better than thirteenth position at the finish of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, while one place higher would have allowed Caterham to reclaim the tenth position in the constructors' championship. Relegated to 16th position, Vitaly Petrov struggled to find grip with a CT01 that was suffering from understeer.

Heikki Kovalainen – 13th:
« I had a good race today. In India, the balance seemed good in the race, and if I hadn’t had a KERS problem, I’m sure I could have had a better afternoon there. Here, it was the same: the car behaved well and with more performance, we would have been higher up in the fight. We must continue to work on the new developments we brought this weekend to make the most of them and we have three more days of testing here to help us, so we have several reasons to be positive about the next two races.
Today, my start was OK and my pace was quite good. After the faster cars passed me, I was really on my own for the rest of the race. When the safety car came out, obviously the pack regrouped each time, but after each restart I was able to easily pull away and I finished having probably extracted everything I could from the car today.
Vitaly Petrov – 16th:
« I got a fairly good start and I was side-by-side with Heikki. If we had both braked at the same time, we probably would have touched, so I braked a bit earlier and from there I struggled to find grip. I’m not sure what the reason was, but during both my stints I didn’t have enough pace to attack the cars in front. I had understeer for most of the race and it really held me back.
It is obviously a disappointing race, especially when we see that Heikki had a good pace today, but sometimes that’s how it is. The car was behaving well on Friday afternoon but yesterday and today, there was simply no grip. We now have a little time to analyze why and then make sure to regain the pace we know we can find at the next race in Austin.
