Sunday: Vettel navigates through the raindrops, Webber does not at Red Bull

Off to a bad start yesterday after being excluded from qualifying, Sebastian Vettel corrected the situation today by managing to reach the podium despite a damaged front wing following contacts at the start of the race. Mark Webber, after another poor start, was less fortunate and was ultimately forced to retire after a collision with Romain Grosjean, his third of the day.

Sebastian Vettel – 3rd:

« It was a good race for us today, it was a big chance for Ferrari and Fernando, but we didn’t allow that. I really enjoyed this race today, more than anything else. I damaged the front wing very early in the race with Bruno [Senna], which wasn’t ideal, but we were able to continue and not lose as much. And then, during the first safety car, I maybe wasn’t paying enough attention. Daniel [Ricciardo] was slowing down, while I was warming the tires, and I was surprised. I had to go right and hit the DRS board, which further damaged the front wing. It was the worst time to stop from 13th place and start again from the back, I had to do everything over by passing everyone. In the end, finishing 3rd on the podium is just fantastic. »

Mark Webber – Retirement [Collision]:

Nothing worked for us today. I think we were strong, but we were never alone on track, and it’s difficult here with the traffic; we saw a few incidents here with those trying to pass. In the end, in the incident that ended my race, I tried to go on the inside when the cars touched, I thought there was an opportunity, and then Grosjean hit my car and it was over for us. Whatever we tried here, it just didn’t work.
