This is the final stretch! In just over 8 days, the 2012 Formula 1 season will come to an end and, whatever happens, will have given its verdict. But before the grand finale at Interlagos, there’s something new awaiting the 24 drivers on the grid: the brand-new Circuit of the Americas. It’s somewhat a compilation of well-known challenging corners, requiring high downforce to navigate comfortably through the first and third sectors. While most drivers seem to appreciate this new race, the still-fresh track is very slippery, doesn’t favor tire warming, and turns 19 and 20 have seen many drivers sliding off and ruining a fast lap.

If the constructors’ title seems secured for Red Bull, as the Austrian team only needs four more points, the drivers’ title is not yet decided. If Sebastian Vettel can already leave the United States with the crown in hand by scoring at least 15 more points, Fernando Alonso, 10 points behind, will not see it that way. The Spaniard hopes to rely on his consistency, the reliability, and the speed of his F2012 in the race to regain the advantage.
