Iconic driver of Renault’s adventure in the early 1980s, Alain Prost, four-time Formula 1 world champion, became an ambassador for the diamond brand in 2012. Confirmed in his duties, the “Professor,” also a consultant for Canal+, was also appointed advisor to the Executive Committee of Renault Sport F1: “His vast experience in Formula 1, combined with his intelligence and enthusiasm for the discipline, has already brought us a lot as we reinforce our position as engine supplier for four teams,” comments Jean-Michel Jalinier, CEO of Renault Sport F1. “With the extension of this partnership, we will continue to benefit from his expertise this year. His presence will be a real advantage as we prepare for new technical challenges with the 2014 engine regulations.”

As part of his new role, Alain Prost will therefore be present at several Formula 1 Grand Prix during the season as well as at other competitions where Renault’s interests are represented, starting with the World Series by Renault. The world champion in 1993 with the French engine manufacturer, the French driver is delighted to be able to contribute a bit more to Renault Group’s activities in Formula 1: « Renault has a very long history in F1. Everything that has been undertaken has been successful. And I, myself, have achieved some of the best performances of my career with Renault engines. Last year, I was able to measure how much passion and rigor remain current in F1. Especially when working on the new “power unit” of 2014. I will share my experience and knowledge of the sport to advise the team on strategic and technical aspects. It’s a very exciting period for everyone. Together, we have a great potential. »

This appointment follows the recent statements by Carlos Tavarès, the CEO of the diamond-brand, who believed that Renault was lacking recognition despite the three titles won with Red Bull Racing.
