Assisted by Mercedes, Robert Kubica has not given up on Formula 1 yet
Currently fully focused on the European rally championship, the Polish driver has not given up on Formula 1. Indeed, Robert Kubica still hopes to be able to return to the pinnacle category of motor sports and will be able to count, to do so, on the support of Mercedes, with whom he has been able to use the F1 simulator in the past.

Engaged in the European Rally Championship this season, Robert Kubica continues to work on his return to the race track, having recently confirmed that he had used the Mercedes F1 simulator in the past: “If there is any chance of bringing him back in a DTM car or in the cockpit of a Formula 1, we would love to do it. Any team would love to have a Robert Kubica,” said Toto Wolff, executive director of the AMG Mercedes team, to BBC Sport. However, the Austrian understands that the Polish driver prefers to focus on rallying for now: “I have known him for ten years, it is up to him to decide how he wants to help us and his focus is currently on rallying. That’s where he wants to find success and that’s what he wants to do in the future.”
The Polish driver, who declined Mercedes’ offer to participate in the DTM championship, actually believes that rallying is now the best solution to make his comeback in competition: “For me, now, the priority is to regain form as much as I can,” commented the Polish driver in an interview with Autosport. “I am not yet able to get back behind the wheel of a single-seater and I don’t want, for now, to return to a circuit driving a touring car. The DTM is one of the most competitive championships in the world for me: among the drivers who participate, I would say that at least ten can win. It is a championship of a very high level. I do not underestimate these cars or GT cars or anything else, it’s just that I have something in mind and I’m trying to do everything to achieve it.”
The native of Krakow keeps his eyes riveted on Formula 1, on which, obviously, he has not given up: « There is no guarantee, no percentage on my chances of coming back or not, but it is also not 100% certain that I will not return to Formula 1. I will try to do my best. I went through a difficult period and I would say it is easier today, I enjoy myself, but it is not yet a completely easy period for me because I would obviously prefer to be racing in Formula 1, at 100% of my capabilities. The reality is different. Now, I need a bit of luck and motivation – which I think I have – and continue working so that I may eventually have the opportunity to return to where I was before my accident. »
